Xu Weixin: Monumental Portraits Xu_Weixin_double_400px (1)

  • UMMA Workshop for Educators
  • Saturday, April 23, 2016
  • 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

Usually, a portrait records a person’s features but sometimes, as in the work of the important contemporary Chinese painter, Xu Weixin, a portrait records much, much more. His Miner Portraits and Chinese Historical Figures portray individuals with monumentality and poignant realism. Xu Weixin brings our focus to their lives and ordeals, inviting an emotional connection. UMMA’s workshop in conjunction with this stunning and impactful exhibition offers history teachers an opportunity to explore the complex and momentous events that took place in 20th century China and also provides teachers of art and literature the chance to explore historical personalities and contemporary identity.
