The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is providing a second way for interested individuals to provide feedback on the newly revised State Social Studies Standards. The first way is via an online survey for Public Comments which is open until June 30, 2018. More details are provided in this post.
On Monday June 18, MDE is holding a Listen and Learn session at Genesee Intermediate School District from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in Room ABCD at Erwin L. Davis Education Center located at 2413 W Maple Ave., Flint, MI, 48507.
There is no need to RSVP and participants are expected to have at least read the sections on which they plan to comment and/or ask questions.
MDE staff developed a cut and cap version of the revised draft standards (Copy of Cut and Cap ) showing where language has been deleted (cut) or added (CAP).
There is also a version of the new draft standards (Copy of Draft Standards) as they will appear when the proposed changes are accepted.
Feedback from both the survey and public meetings will be used to determine the final draft standards that the State Board of Education will consider for adoption. For questions or concerns, please contact Jim Cameron, Social Studies Consultant, at CameronJ3@michigan.gov or Genesee ISD Social Studies Consultant Roy Sovis, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
