On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, the Focus Group is planning to meet for the last time to finalize input on the Revised Social Studies Standards. The Focus Group was brought together by the Michigan Department of Education and comprised of representatives not previously involved in the process. The group is inclusive of educators from various school districts and ISD/RESAs across the state, Legislators, judges, lawyers, University professors, business leaders, representatives from various organizations (Arab community, American Indians, Latinos, African-American) and Social Studies Leaders involved throughout the process. The goal of the Focus Group is to provide the last round of feedback.

At this point it is expected the newly revised Social Studies Standards will be sent to the State Board of Education for approval in December 2016.
